6.2-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Southern Italy Coast

(MENAFN) A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of southern Italy late Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake occurred at a depth of 247 kilometers (153 miles) and was centered about 38 kilometers (23 miles) from the city of Cosenza in the Calabria region.

Authorities reported no immediate casualties or significant damage following the tremor. Emergency officials continued monitoring the situation while assessing potential impacts on nearby communities and infrastructure.

Italy frequently experiences seismic activity due to its location near the boundary of major tectonic plates, making earthquakes a recurring natural hazard across the country.
