Trump, Netanyahu Hold 'Dramatic' Overnight Call as Iran War Looms
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu engaged in a second high-stakes phone conversation within days, with Israeli media characterizing the overnight exchange as "lengthy and dramatic" in a Wednesday report.
The contents of the discussions were not disclosed, though the broadcaster indicated the two leaders appeared to be "on the verge of a decision" regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Neither the White House nor Netanyahu's office released any official statement confirming or elaborating on the call.
The overnight conversation follows a Sunday call between the two leaders that ran for over 30 minutes, centered on "the possibility of renewing fighting in Iran," according to Israeli media. In the wake of that exchange, Trump took to his Truth Social account to issue a stark warning to Tehran that "the Clock is Ticking" for Iran.
By Monday evening, Trump announced he had pulled back a strike on Iran that had been scheduled for Tuesday, citing a direct request from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. In the same post, he warned he had directed the Defense Department "to be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment's notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached."
The diplomatic standoff has sharpened considerably in recent weeks. Since April 13, the US has enforced a naval blockade on Iranian ports — including those along the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz — following the breakdown of Pakistan-mediated negotiations.
Iran retaliated by closing the strait and mandating that all vessels coordinate passage directly with Tehran. The move has intensified alarm over the durability of a fragile ceasefire that has held since April 8, with no resolution yet in sight to end the war that erupted in February.
