Massive Fire Erupts in Moscow

(MENAFN) A significant fire broke out in northern Moscow on Sunday, the Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed, as the Russian capital simultaneously came under what the Defense Ministry described as a massive Ukrainian drone assault.

The blaze has consumed an area of 300 square meters, the ministry said, with flames tearing through an open storage site beneath the Northern-Eastern Expressway (SVKh).

"The Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for Moscow received a report of a fire at the address: Amurskaya Street, building 2, building 1. Combustion of stored finishing materials is occurring on an open site," the statement read.

The site had been used to store paints, varnishes, and construction materials — all highly flammable — making containment efforts significantly more challenging, the ministry noted.

Authorities confirmed they are actively gathering information on the circumstances and causes of the blaze, as well as any potential casualties.

The fire's impact has already rippled into the city's traffic network. Moscow's Department of Transport confirmed that "Traffic on the Northern-Eastern Expressway is blocked in both directions," urging drivers to seek alternative routes.

On the legal front, the Preobrazhenskaya Interdistrict Prosecutor's Office has been assigned to determine the cause of the fire and oversee the procedural investigation, the capital's prosecutor's office confirmed.
