He further added that “Today, this community space was shattered by gunfire. California sends our deepest condolences to the families and communities impacted by today’s shooting,” expressing sympathy for those affected.
Reiterating his stance, he said, “Worshippers anywhere should not have to fear for their lives. Hate has no place in California, and we will not tolerate acts of terror or intimidation against communities of faith,” emphasizing rejection of violence and intimidation directed at religious groups.
He also directly addressed the local Muslim community, stating, “To the San Diego Muslim community: California stands with you.”
According to authorities, three individuals, including a security guard, were killed during the attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday.
Law enforcement officials additionally reported that the two suspected attackers died as a result of self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
