China Urges Firm Stand on US–Iran Ceasefire as Hormuz Tensions Rise
In communications with Pakistan’s foreign minister, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of sustaining diplomatic momentum and preventing a renewed escalation in the Middle East. He called on countries to intensify efforts supporting negotiations and to resist actions that could destabilize the fragile truce.
"The international community should continue to step up efforts to promote peace talks and take a clear stand against any actions that undermine the ceasefire or escalate confrontation," Wang Yi said during the phone call.
He also stressed that avoiding a return to conflict remains the most urgent priority, highlighting the need to preserve what he described as a fragile opportunity for stability in the region.
"The top priority is to make every effort to prevent the conflict in the Middle East from reigniting and maintain the hard-won momentum of the ceasefire.”
Pakistan’s foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, reaffirmed Islamabad’s position in favor of diplomacy following recent discussions involving Iranian and US representatives held in Pakistan. He reiterated that dialogue remains the only workable path toward restoring regional peace.
“The only viable path forward,” he said, underscoring continued commitment to negotiations.
The remarks came as reports indicated that maritime restrictions linked to Iranian ports and the strategic Strait of Hormuz had begun to take effect, raising further concern about global shipping stability.
Following coordinated diplomatic engagement involving countries including Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, Pakistan had previously helped facilitate a temporary ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran after earlier hostilities, according to reports.
