EU Announces Extension of Sanctions on Sudan’s Instigators Until 2026

(MENAFN) The European Union announced on Monday that it has prolonged its sanctions against individuals and entities responsible for undermining Sudan’s political transition and exacerbating the country’s instability.

Originally set to expire in October 2025, the sanctions will now remain in effect until October 10, 2026, according to a statement from the European Council.

At present, 10 individuals and 8 entities face comprehensive EU-wide restrictions, including travel bans, asset freezes, and a ban on providing financial or economic resources to those targeted, either directly or indirectly.

These measures primarily focus on members and associates of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), whose ongoing conflict has left millions of civilians in crisis over the past two years.

The EU first enacted a sanctions framework for Sudan in October 2023 and has since imposed further penalties in January, June, and December of 2024, as well as in July 2025.

The EU has reiterated its commitment to working with the international community, emphasizing that it will continue to utilize diplomatic and sanctions-based strategies to encourage a political process that aligns with the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
