Putin Appreciates Constructive Ties with Trump
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin “values the constructive relations” he maintains with his US counterpart Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated, emphasizing that both leaders aim for the Ukraine conflict to progress toward a peaceful resolution.
During an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin broadcast on Sunday, Peskov mentioned that Putin appreciates the fact that the two leaders can “openly discuss the most urgent and sensitive issues.”
He further explained: “Putin, like President Trump, remains interested and open to bringing the entire Ukrainian crisis into the path of a peaceful settlement,” highlighting that Moscow will “keep working to feel out an opportunity” for ongoing diplomatic engagement.
“We count on the US and President Trump personally to make efforts to help in this matter. We’ll see what comes of it,” Peskov added.
The spokesman also commented on Trump’s recent visit to the UK, one of Ukraine’s strongest allies. “The United Kingdom is one of the leaders of this pro-war camp,” he remarked, adding that Trump “was probably told a lot about their plans to keep putting pressure on Russia,” including through the use of sanctions.
Since assuming office, Trump has repeatedly sought to mediate the Ukraine conflict, initiating numerous rounds of discussions with Russian officials.
These efforts culminated in a summit with Putin in Alaska in mid-August. Although no breakthrough was reached, both parties described the meetings as productive.
