Cholera Cases in Sudan Increase
According to the ministry’s official release, these newly identified cases have pushed the cumulative number of infections to 102,831 since the outbreak first emerged in August 2024.
The total number of deaths linked to the disease now stands at 2,561.
The ministry noted that the rate of infection had fallen in certain regions while rising in others, though it did not provide details on the specific areas affected.
On August 6, World Health Organization confirmed that cholera cases had been verified in all 18 states across Sudan.
This mounting health emergency unfolds as Sudan continues to be ravaged by a civil war between the national army and the paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces, a conflict that began in April 2023.
The ongoing violence has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and forced millions from their homes.
