Ex-South Korea’s PM gets questioned over ex-leader martial law attempt

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, South Korea’s former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and current Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun were summoned by a special prosecutor investigating ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol’s failed attempt to declare martial law last year, according to local media.

Special counsel Cho Eun-suk is examining whether Yoon overstepped his authority and whether any Cabinet members assisted him in his unsuccessful effort to impose martial law on December 3, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.

Both Han and Ahn arrived at the special prosecutor’s office but did not make any public statements upon entering.
Yoon himself was questioned last Saturday on charges of insurrection tied to his attempt to enforce martial law. His legal team confirmed he is scheduled for another session with the special prosecutor this coming Saturday.

Yoon was removed from the presidency in April by the Constitutional Court following the martial law controversy. He had previously been arrested and indicted in January on charges of power abuse and leading an insurrection, marking the first time a sitting South Korean president had been taken into custody.
In March, a district court overturned the arrest warrant, allowing Yoon to remain free while awaiting trial.
