UK Police Opens Probe into Glastonbury Performance
The probe was initiated due to the lead vocalist's shouted slogans directed at the Israeli military.
Authorities stated that the move to investigate was made after an analysis of visual and audio material from the group’s act.
This development came in the wake of a statement by a news agency, which acknowledged remorse over its failure to stop the live broadcast of Bob Vylan’s Glastonbury set.
During the performance, frontman Bobby Vylan incited the audience with chants of “Free, free Palestine” and “Death, death to the IDF,” referencing the Israeli Defense Forces.
The Israeli Embassy in London strongly criticized the chants, describing them as “inflammatory and hateful rhetoric,” while UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer characterized the slogans as “appalling hate speech.”
The duo, which includes Bobby Vylan on vocals and guitar and Bobbie Vylan on drums—both using pseudonyms to preserve anonymity—has also encountered sharp criticism in the United States.
Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau posted on X that their US visas had been canceled “in light of their hateful tirade at Glastonbury, including leading the crowd in death chants.”
In response to the backlash, Bob Vylan uploaded a video on Instagram denouncing the politicians who focused on condemning the band.
They claimed those officials should feel “utterly ashamed” for prioritizing this incident over more pressing matters.
Avon and Somerset Police stated that after evaluating footage from both Bob Vylan’s and the Irish rap group Kneecap’s sets, they determined that additional investigation is warranted and that a criminal inquiry is now underway.
